Abstract

The tittle of this research was, “Students’ Reluctance to speak in English Classroom”. The problem of this study was “What are the factors that cuase students' to be reluctance to speak in English classroom”. This research was conducted to the students at Senior High School 9 Palembang. It aims to find out what are the factors that cause students to be reluctant to speak English in class. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative study. In collecting the data, students were given questionnaires and interviews. Each questionnaire contained twenty statements and interviewed ten questions. researchers can concluded that factors causing students’ reluctance to speak in English were Anxiety 66%, Fear of mistakes 55,5%, lack of vocabulary 33,3%, lack of confidence 55,5%.
