Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of used picture series in teaching writing recount text to eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Pedamaran. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of two groups, namely the experimental group which was taught used a series of pictures and the control group which was taught used quantitative methods. The instrument used to collect data was a written test. Data were analysed use the t-test to compare test results between the experimental group and the control group. The results showed that the experimental group taught with the picture series showed a significant increase in their ability to write recount text compared to the control group. The implication of this research is that the picture series could used as an effective tool in improved students’ writing skills in the context of recount text.
