Abstract
Abstract The aim of this research is to describe the Discovery Learning Method to improve reading comprehension in descriptive texts. The problem is whether the Discovery Learning Method strategy can improve seventh grade students' reading comprehension of descriptive texts at SMPN 1 Muara Sugihan. This research is classroom action research carried out in three cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The participants in this research were 26 students, consisting of 13 (50%) men and 13 (50%) women. The indicator of success is determined if at least 85% of students achieve learning mastery after applying the Discovery Learning Method. The research results showed (1) the average classical achievement in cycle I was 69.43, in cycle II was 82.5, and in cycle III was 92.12; (2) student participation in cycle I was 15 (58%) students; in cycle II achieved by 18 (69%) students; and in cycle III reached 24 (92%) students. This means that the results of each cycle show an increase. So the Discovery Learning Method is successful in improving students' reading comprehension of descriptive text.
