Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of dialect on the pronunciation of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at Pgri University of Palembang. The research focuses on English language education students in the fourth semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 16 individuals from Palembang, Musi Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Pagaralam. The researchers employed descriptive qualitative research methods and utilized data collection techniques including, questionnaires, and interviews.The questionnaire results displayed 12 students were agree thattheir dialect affects the way they pronounce English words. Moreover, the interview results indicated that students from Pagaralam, Ogan Ilir, and Musi Banyuasin felt their dialect made their pronunciation sound different. In conclusion dialect has role in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students’ pronunciation at University. Keywords : Dialect, Pronunciation, English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
