Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the types of grammatical error which is viewed from 4 categories such as Omission, Addition, Misorder, and Misformation, and the cause of error occurred in writing a recount text. The research design was a descriptive￾qualitative research. The participants were the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 45 Palembang in academic year 2023/2024 consisting of 24 students. To collect the data, the researcher used writing test and qustionnaire as the instrument then analysing it. The findings showed that there were 221 errors made by the students which were divided into some categories, i.e. Omission category was 65 (29,4%), Addition category was 41 (18,6%), Misorder category was 16 (7,2%), and Misformation was 99 (44,8%). The most common error made by the students in writing recount text was Misformation category. The results of questionnaire indicated that students not only interested in writing recount text, but also did not fully understand how to use the structure of grammatical in writing recount text due to lack of vocabulary.
