Abstract

This thesis aims to find: (1) the effect of using Serial Cartoon Pictures towards Eighth-grade students’ speaking skills; (2) the effect of Learning Motivation towards Eighth-grade students’ speaking skills; (3) the effect of using Serial Cartoon Pictures and Learning Motivation towards Eighth-grade students’ speaking skills. This study is a quantitative study with experimental method study. The location of this study is in SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Pinang with 56 samples of students. Pre-test, Post-test and Questionnaire are used in this quantitative study to collect data. To check the validity of the test content validity, construct validity and face validity were used. Then, to check the reliability of the test Cronbach’ Alpha was used. Descriptive analysis, normality, homogeneity, paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test and two-way ANOVA were used in this study to analyse the data. The results of the study shows there was an effect of using Serial Cartoon Pictures and Learning Motivation towards Eighth-grade students’ speaking skills with p-value was 0.024 which means lower than sig-level 0.05.
