Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of implementing the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy on eleventh-grade students’ comprehension of narrative texts at SMA Negeri 15 Palembang. A quasi-experimental research design was utilized, involving two groups: the experimental group, which received instruction using the CSR method, and the control group, which was taught through traditional approaches. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were gathered through a reading comprehension test administered both prior to and following the treatment. The findings revealed that the CSR strategy significantly improved students’ understanding of narrative texts. This was demonstrated by the increase in the experimental group’s post-test scores (mean = 22.00, SD = 1.25) compared to their pre-test scores (mean = 17.14, SD = 2.12), as well as compared to the control group’s post-test results (mean = 19.00, SD = 2.18). An independent samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference between the post-test scores of both groups (t-obtained = 3.452, p = 0.001 < 0.05), confirming the positive effect of CSR on reading comprehension outcomes. Therefore, it can be concluded that CSR is an effective strategy for enhancing reading comprehension among eleventh-grade students.
