Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the role of QuillBot, an AI-powered writing tool, in enhancing the narrative writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Daarul Aitam Palembang. Writing, particularly narrative text, is often considered one of the most challenging aspects of English language learning due to its requirements in grammar, vocabulary, and idea organization. This study employed a quantitative approach using a One-Group Pre-test Post-test Design. A total of 30 students were given a pre-test and post-test narrative writing task entitled “The Best Day Ever.” During the treatment, students were introduced to QuillBot and trained to use its features—such as paraphrasing, grammar checking, and vocabulary enhancement—to revise and improve their writing. The results showed a significant increase in the mean score from 58.33 in the pre-test to 80.00 in the post-test. Data analysis using a paired sample t-test confirmed the effectiveness of QuillBot, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The findings indicate that QuillBot positively impacted students’ narrative writing by helping them reduce grammar errors, expand their vocabulary, and improve text organization. This study suggests that QuillBot can be a valuable tool in supporting English writing instruction, especially in EFL contexts. Keywords: QuillBot, narrative writing, writing skill, AI tool, EFL students
