Abstract
This research aims to analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting students’ academic writing, particularly among English Education students at Universitas PGRI Palembang. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach, the study explores how AI tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Quillbot influence students' writing quality, knowledge development, and perceptions. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving 10 students from the 2nd and 4th semesters. The findings revealed that AI tools significantly assist students in generating ideas, improving grammar and structure, and enhancing writing efficiency. However, ethical concerns such as overreliance on AI and potential plagiarism were also identified. Despite these concerns, students generally have a positive perception of AI, viewing it as a supportive learning tool rather than a replacement for critical thinking. The research highlights the need for balanced AI integration in education to maintain originality, encourage creativity, and support academic integrity.
