Abstract
This research aimed to examine the effect of the Mind Mapping technique on the writing ability of eighth-grade students at SMP PGRI 1 Palembang, particularly in writing recount texts. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest format was employed, involving 24 students as the research participants. The study began with administering a pretest to assess students' initial writing skills. Afterward, a treatment using the Mind Mapping technique was implemented over six sessions, focusing on helping students organize their ideas visually before writing. A posttest was conducted after the treatment to measure any improvements. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' writing abilities, with the average posttest score increasing from 58.42 to 76.31. Statistical analysis using a matched t-test revealed that the difference in scores was statistically significant, confirming the effectiveness of Mind Mapping in enhancing students’ writing skills. The study concluded that the Mind Mapping technique positively impacted students' ability to organize and develop ideas for recount texts. These findings suggest that educators should consider integrating Mind Mapping as a regular method in writing instruction to improve students' writing performance.
